The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is pleased to announce that the sea ice markers for the route between Makkovik-Hopedale and Makkovik-Postville has been put in place for the winter.

Preparation are under way to break the trail to Burnt Lake, however we are currently experience mechanical difficulties with the groomer.

The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is pleased to announce that Perry Voisey and Andy Edmunds have been hired to harvest this year two moose licence for the Makkovik Inuit Community Government. The meat will be distributed to the community, pending a successful hunt. They will hold the licences for a period of thirty days. Pending their success, the Community Government is still collecting names of anyone interested in holding the licences for another thirty days or to the end of March (which ever comes first). Water Dispensing Room (larger version)
The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is pleased to announce the Advance Water Treatment System is now ready to begin dispensing purified drinking water to the community.

The dispensing room is located behind the new fire hall on the north side of the building (facing the harbour).

Residents can go there to collect their own drinking water and please follow the instructions on the wall inside the dispensing room.

As you go in and out we ask that you make sure the door is closed to keep the room warm.

The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is pleased to announce that start of its winter program in assisting seniors and disabled with chores such as snow shoveling, and bringing in wood. We have two people hired until the end of March. For more information contact the council office at 923-2221.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

A 5% discount is available to residents for the 2015 Municipal Taxes, including water and sewer and property tax if you pay in full by Tuesday, March 31, 2015.

Payment methods accepted :

Cash, Debit Card, Credit Card( Visa and Master Card), money order, cheques( including post dated cheques) and email transfers( send to info@makkovik.ca).

Overdue 2014 Municipal Taxes

For anyone in arrears of 2014 Municipal Taxes, please make arrangements to pay immediately, as these accounts are now a year overdue. Sufficient time has been given to make payment(s).As per the Town's policy, failure to pay these taxes by July 02, 2015 could result in disconnection of services to your home.

JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Makkovik Inuit Community Government received funding from Makkovimiut Trust Incorporated to offer a

SENIORS & PHYSICALLY DISABLED ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

We require TWO labourers to provide assistance with wood chores( chopping, bringing in wood, etc) and snow shoveling to Seniors over age 65 & Physically disabled residents.

The expected program start date is February 02, 2015 for a duration of 10 weeks, end date being April 10, 2015.

● These positions pay the minimum wage of $ 10.25 per hour
● Open to both male and female applicants
