Public Notice

Effective January 01, 2016, the Makkovik Inuit Community Government will become a new HST Registrant under Section 148.(1) (Small Suppliers) of the Excise Tax Act in accordance with the First Nations Goods and Services Act and Nunatsiavut GST Act.

This means that 13% HST(Harmonized Sales Tax) will be collected on all applicable goods and services sales . Examples of these taxable goods and services include sale of land, sales of equipment and or materials, rental of equipment, room rentals. Municipal Taxes are not subject to NGST/HST.

The Makkovik Inuit Community Government will be remitting to Canada Revenue Agency for these taxes on a quarterly basis.

PLEASE KEEP WATER RUNNING

The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is advising residents to prevent freeze ups to leave water running at all times.

Even during the warmer days the temperatures can drop rapidly in the evenings and freeze ups can occur when you least expect. The severity of each freeze up is different but taking proactive steps (leaving water running) will give you and the town an extra peace of mind.

25th Annual Trout Festival- August 11th to August 15, 2015

The Town of Makkovik will be hosting the 25th Annual Trout Festival this summer from August 11th to August 15th, 2015. The fun-filled week will start off with beautiful fire works on Tuesday night and end on Saturday with a delicious community feast & dance with live entertainment…. Plus many great events in between for all ages to enjoy.

Notice of Business Permit Application

Rachel Edmunds is applying for a business permit to operate a variety store at 20-22 Andersen Street . The business permit application will be reviewed at the a regular council meeting in June 2015.

Council will be accepting any public comments in writing by email, letter or fax pertaining to this application up to Tuesday, June 09 at 4:00 pm.

Mayor's March for Heart Disease and Stroke
"Communities with Heart"

The Makkovik Inuit Community Government will once again be hosting the Mayor's March to raise awareness and funds for Heart Disease and Stroke. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Pledges shall be collected and all proceeds shall go towards the NL Heart and Stroke Foundation of NL.

Please be advised that rabies vaccinations are mandatory under the Makkovik Dog Control Regulations.

This year has already 9 case of rabies in Labrador, with one being a sled dog in Makkovik.

If you have any question about rabies or rabies vaccinations please contact the Nunatsiavut Government Department of Health.

Residents should report any siting of strange acting wild or domestic animals to the RCMP, Conservation Officer, or Inuit Community Government Office.
