Reminder to Residents

It is important to keep a tap running in your homes at all times even during the milder winter temperatures to avoid water lines from freezing. This also includes homes with heated basements or crawl spaces.

REQUEST FOR QUOTATIONS

MOOSE HARVEST( Two Moose)

Sealed bid(s) are being accepted from beneficiaries interested in harvesting (2) moose allocated under the Nunatsiavut Government 2013-2014 moose management plan. Bids should be based on one moose per harvester.

Bids must include the slaughter, butchering, distribution and disposal of the meat to the community as determined by the Makkovik Inuit Community Government. In addition, the antlers (if any) to remain with the Makkovik Inuit Community Government. All tools, fuel, ammunitions, packaging and supplies associated with the above is to be covered under the bid.

Please submit your bids to the Council office by Thursday, March 19, 2014 @ 4:00 pm.

Please be advised that officials from the provincial Department of Environment and Conservation and the Department of Justice will be holding a public forum to provide information on the latest data on the George River Caribou Herd. The forum will also allow an opportunity to hear concerns from the public with the respect to the current provincial harvesting ban. Officials from the Nunatsiavut Department of Lands and Natural Resource will be present at all forum.

Imposition of Municipal Taxes for 2014
Effective January 01, 2014

In accordance with applicable section of the Municipalities Act( 1999) and The Act Respecting the Taxation of Utilities and Cable Television Companies, the Makkovik Inuit Community Government has imposed the following taxes and fee for the 2014 year:

Notice of Business Permit Application

October 25, 2013

Marilyn Winters is applying for a business permit to operate a portable/mobile hairsalon business known as "Marilyn's Portable Hair Styling" which will provide hairstyling services to residents at their own homes. The business permit application will be reviewed at the next regular council meeting.

Council will be accepting any public comments in writing by email, letter or fax pertaining to this application up to Friday, November 08, 2013 at 4:00 pm.

Big hearts shone through again for the 2013 Mayor's March!!

AngajukKak Herbert Jacque would like to thank everyone who participated in the Mayor's March that was held on the evening of Wednesday, October 09, 2013. It was a beautiful fall evening in Makkovik, and residents walked along the water front on Moravian Street. There were over 65 participants and a total of $ 446.00 was raised for the NL Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Thank you everyone for your generous donations towards this worthwhile cause… to help fight against heart and stroke disease in our province.

PUBLIC ADVISORY

It has comes to town's attention, that spilled garbage has been left on the roads when residents are taking garbage to the dumpsite. For the safety of drivers and pedestrians as well as cleanliness of the town, Makkovik Inuit Community Government would like advise the public that if you are taking garbage to the dumpsite, insure that any garbage is picked up if it spills onto the roads and also garbage is placed inside the dumpsite fencing in the appropriate designated areas.

Mayor's March for Heart Disease and Stroke
"Communities with Heart"
The Makkovik Inuit Community Government Councilors & staff along with family members shall be coming together for a walk to raise awareness and funds for Heart Disease and Stroke.
Pledges shall be collected and all proceeds shall go towards the NL Heart and Stroke Foundation of NL.

Meet by the Council Office and walk to Indian Head and back

Let's do our part to help eliminate heart disease and stroke!

Pledge sheets for this walk are available to residents at the Town Office. Please feel free to drop by during normal business hours from 8-4-30 pm Monday to Friday to pick one up.
