Recreation and Youth Coordinator

►►Status and Reporting Protocol:
This a one year full time unionized position, with the possibility of it becoming permanent, that reports directly to the Director of Recreation and Community Events.

Qualifications:
The Recreation and Youth Coordinator must have completed a degree or diploma in physical education, community recreation, or completed studies in working with youth or program development for youth, or an equivalent program of studies. Specific skills, knowledge, and experience in the area of community recreation and dealing with youth are necessary. This individual must have a valid driver's license and excellent inter-personal and communication skills. Knowledge, skills, and experience in working with youth, organizing youth activities, programs, and seminars, or skills in working with youth to develop their ideas and skills will be a great asset. Preference will be given to the most suitable combination of academic qualifications and successful experience in the area of community recreation and youth program development. A VALID UP TO DATE CODE OF CONDUCT FROM RCMP IS REQUIRED.

Rationale:
The purpose of this job description is to generally outline the duties, roles, and responsibilities of the position. It is not meant to be limiting or all inclusive. As with all employees, from time to time, there may be a need to assist in carrying out other reasonable duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Recreation and Community Events or the CAO in order to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the town, and to respond to other pressing needs or emergencies as might arise from time to time.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:
The Recreation and Youth Coordinator assumes responsibilities in a number ongoing recreational programs and initiatives, community events, tourism initiatives, and especially for the growth and development of community based program aimed at expanding and developing opportunities for youth in the community. A major component of this position is to explore new ideas and means to engage youth in a wide array of recreational activities, entrepreneurial initiatives, youth groups and activities, youth leadership seminars and symposiums, and to develop and maintain a program at the proposed new youth center that will see youth actively involved in developing programs and ideas to involve youth.

Scope of Work:
1. Youth Center Programming, Supervision, and Evaluation
2. Community Recreation Programs
2. Tourism Related Activities and Facilities Maintenance
3. Support for Special Events

Start Date: To be determined

Rate of Pay:
As outlined in the existing NAPE Agreement, Salary Scales, start off rate of pay is $ 19.59 per hour plus $ 3.41 per hour Northern Allowance(NA) Pending passing of probationary period, the hourly rate will increase to $ 20.50 per hour plus $ 3.41 NA and candidate will be eligible for the applicable employee benefits including pension and insurance.
