At a regular meeting on May 01, 2013, the Makkovik Inuit Community Government unanimously approved a by-law known as the "Makkovik Inuit Community Government Vendor Regulations" pertaining to the operation of mobile takeouts within Makkovik.
A public notice was posted two weeks prior to this meeting for public input, and no comments were received.
The " Makkovik Inuit Community Vendor Regulations" will now be registered as a new by-law under the Nunatsiavut Registry as per Section 17.41.1(k) and 17.41.3(i) of the Land Inuit Land Claims Agreement(LILCA).

Dave and Hulda Rice is proposing to operate a mobile takeout known as "Kathleen's Takeout" which they plan to operate from their personal property at 26 Laura's Lane and also transporting to different areas of town during the summer months.
Mr. and Mrs. Rice's vendor permit application will be reviewed at the next regular meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Council will be accepting any public comments in writing by email, letter or fax pertaining to this application up to Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 1:30 pm.

This year's festival is taking place from August 13-17, 2013.
The festival originated as a part of the Canada Day Celebrations in 1988. It's getting more popular each year and now runs every July on its own. One of the main events is the Trout Supper, which offers trout served in a variety of ways such as smoked, fried, stewed, and fish & brewis. Other foods are served as well, including chicken, caribou, a variety of salads, beverages, and desserts.

A big thank you goes out to John Andersen on the successful harvest of one moose (male) on February 9th, 2013 and the distribution of meat to households on behalf of the Makkovik Inuit Community Government. The moose was the last of two licenses issued to the Makkovik Inuit Community Government under the Nunatsiavut Government 2012-2013 Moose Management Program. The previous moose was harvested by Perry Voisey on January 31, 2013.
