I have just seen the Fifth Estate documentary covering the tragic passing of Burton Winters, and I was so impressed by all of the people interviewed - everyone seems so genuine and kind and articulate, and the support you have shown one another is inspiring. What a model Canadian community. My thoughts are with Burton's family.

Today in Social Studies we are learning some basic information about the town we live in (Makkovik). We learned that there are roughly 360 people.

Thanks for such great help!

Great website! I've been to Makkovik a couple of times, great looking community and of course would have known quite a few people who stayed in the Dorm from way back when.

Thing I remember most about the Makkovik boys that stayed in the Dorm is that they ware as much into soccer (and real good at it) as the boys from NWR were in to hockey.

Keep up the good work with the website- I'm impressed with the sense of community that pervades throughout the town.

Kindest regards from Saskatoon, SK. I left Newfoundland at age 18. My late grandmother was from this area. My great grandparents would be Charles Broomfield & Gladys Russel, Richard Broomfield & Susan Oliver.

I'd like to visit Makkovik and Seal Cove area some day as I have never been. Would be nice to see where my roots are.

Thanks for the website.
Winston.

My husband and I saw the Fifth Estate on March 23/12 about Burton Winters, who lost his life on the ice.

We are so very, very sad - what a tragedy this was.

We feel for his wonderful Parents and the incredible community of Makkovik.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely

Don and Christa Ellis

I visited Makkovik in the 1980s with a group from my high school. I wanted to say hi to Mary Ola Andersen and all the "kids" from the Makkovik school back in those days.I hope everyone is doing well. - Kathleen
