Husky dogs are not used for work as in the past. However, there are a few teams around, for recreational use, and for racing. There is an annual dog team race held in Nunatsiavut, with a different host town each year. Makkovik has its own annual dog team race on Easter Monday. Winter visitors, please contact the Town Office if you would like to find a driver willing to give a ride on a komatik pulled by four or more husky dogs.
